The short version. You may use SMFlow to build whatever you like, commercially under a Pro license. The C++ source it generates and the binaries you compile from it are yours— no royalties, no runtime fees, and no obligation to credit us. What you may not do is redistribute, resell, or reverse-engineer SMFlow itself. The paragraphs below are the binding version.
1. Acceptance
By installing, activating, or using SMFlow, you agree to this License Agreement. If you are accepting on behalf of a company, you represent that you are authorized to bind it, and “you” means that company. If you do not agree, do not use the software.
2. Editions and the license granted
Subject to this agreement, SMFlow LLC grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to install and use SMFlow.
2.1 Free edition
The Free edition may be used at no charge, for evaluation, education, personal projects, and internal development. It is limited to 12 nodes per flow. The Free edition does not grant rights to deploy compiled output in a commercial product or production system.
2.2 Pro edition
A valid Pro license removes the node limit and grants commercial use rights, including deploying compiled output in commercial products, production machines, and systems you sell or operate for profit.
A Pro license is granted per person. One license may be activated on up to3 machines used by that person. It may not be shared between people, pooled across a team, or used concurrently by multiple users. A team needs one license per engineer who uses SMFlow.
Activating a license on a shared build agent or CI runner for automated builds is permitted under the licensed person’s seat and does not require an additional license.
3. What you own
This section is the point of the product, so it is stated plainly.
- Your projects are yours. Project files (
.smflow) are your data. They are plain, documented JSON, and nothing in this agreement gives us any right in them. - Generated code is yours. The C++ source SMFlow produces from your project, and any binary you compile from it, are your property. You may use, modify, distribute, sell, and sublicense them without restriction, royalty, attribution, or further permission from us.
- No runtime component is imposed on you. SMFlow compiles ahead of time to ordinary native C++. Nothing from SMFlow is required on your target device, and no part of this agreement reaches the devices you deploy to.
- Supporting code emitted into your output — driver sources, scan-loop scaffolding, and similar — is provided under the same terms: yours to ship, with no further obligation.
4. Restrictions
You may not:
- Redistribute, resell, rent, lease, sublicense, or host SMFlow itself as a service.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble SMFlow, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
- Circumvent, disable, or tamper with licensing, activation, or the node limit, or use a license key you did not lawfully obtain.
- Remove or alter any proprietary notice in the software.
- Share a license key, or your activated license file, with anyone else.
5. Ownership of the software
SMFlow is licensed, not sold. SMFlow LLC retains all right, title, and interest in the software, including its editor, compiler, and node libraries, and in all intellectual property in them. You receive only the rights expressly granted here — which, as section 3 sets out, deliberately include everything the compiler produces for you.
6. No warranty, and a word about safety
SMFlow is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that generated code will be fit for any particular application.
SMFlow is not certified for safety-critical use. It carries no functional-safety certification (such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, or ISO 26262), and it must not be relied upon as the sole protective measure in any system where failure could cause injury, death, environmental harm, or significant property damage.
You are solely responsible for reviewing, testing, validating, and certifying any control system you build with SMFlow, including the generated C++ source, before it controls real equipment. Independent hardware interlocks and emergency-stop circuits remain your responsibility.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SMFlow LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, equipment damage, or business interruption, arising from your use of the software — even if advised of the possibility. Our total aggregate liability under this agreement will not exceed the amount you paid for your license in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred US dollars if you hold a Free license.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of sections 6 and 7 may not apply to you.
8. Telemetry and network access
SMFlow contacts our servers only to activate or deactivate a license, and to check for updates. It does not transmit your project files, generated code, or the contents of your work to us. After activation the software is fully functional offline. See the Privacy Policy for what activation sends.
9. Term and termination
A purchased Pro license is perpetual and does not expire. This agreement terminates automatically if you materially breach it — in particular section 4 — and we may revoke a license key that was refunded, charged back, or obtained fraudulently. On termination you must stop using the software and remove it from your machines.
A Pro evaluation license is time-limited. It unlocks the Pro edition for a fixed term —15 days by default — carried as a signed expiry inside the license itself. When that term ends the Pro grant lapses and SMFlow returns to the Free edition of section 2.1; nothing you built while the evaluation was valid is affected. An evaluation is provided free of charge and is not a purchase, so no refund terms apply to it.
Termination does not affect what you have already built. Rights in generated code and compiled binaries produced while your license was valid survive, as does section 3 generally.
10. Transfer
You may not transfer your license to another person or entity without our written consent, which we will not unreasonably withhold for a genuine transfer such as a change of employer or a sale of the business the license was bought for. Contact support@smflow.co.
11. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of Indiana have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
12. Entire agreement
This agreement, together with the Terms of Sale and thePrivacy Policy, is the entire agreement between you and SMFlow LLC regarding SMFlow. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Questions:legal@smflow.co.
